PR ENGINEERING.


21st April is always marked as NATIONAL PUBLIC RELATIONS DAY(PR DAY), and every year  NSHM INSTITUTE OF MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS(NIMC),in association with PRSI ( Public Relations Society Of India), celebrates this wonderful day with colors of media and corporate glam. PRSI was established in 1958, to promote the recognition of Public Relations as a profession and to place the objectives of PR and its potential in front of the society. Whereas NSHM Institute Of Media and Communications, stands out as one of the leading media institute in  east India, and being a media institute it recognizes PR as the most efficient part of the developing society.


 21st April 2011, was not left aside. This day like previous celebrations was filled with lots of media enthusiasm, corporate elegance and passionate young students participating from various schools and colleges across the city.



Eminent corporate professionals delivered their verdict on this very day and also shared their precious experience with the audience present. In brief, the event was welcomed by the speech of Mr. Mrityunjoy Chatterjee, Principal of NSHM Institute of Media and Communications. Then the event took its pace by the introductory speech of Mrs.  Rita Bhimani, CEO of Ritam Communications, talking about values of PR (Public Relations), and its importance in contemporary society and about how to be a successful PR- a corporate field of interest:

“PR strategies- to be able to use networking, to be able to use mature setup, to able to use the fact that companies from different parts of the world and act in local manner- these are some responsibilities of PR.”



 It was then our next respected speaker Mrs.  Karuna Singh, the Country Director of Earth Day Network, talking about the Earth Day celebration i.e. 22nd April. “Green Earth” was the motto of her speech, she discussed about the importance of Earth Day, Why it is celebrated? And how can PR act as a catalyst to save our home, our planet:



Told about the benefits that it is only through public to public that awareness about saving environment can be build  not from  public to individual or individual to public.” : “A green speech” indeed.


It did not the end here, the event was then followed by competitions, students from different schools and colleges across the city participated . The first competition was the Presentation: “A roadmap for making the Earth Green. It was basically powerpoint presentation, delivering information on how to save earth, importance of 22nd April (Earth Day), the judges were the senior faculty members of NIMC.



It was then Ina Bose, the Deputy GM of Corp. Communications of Infinity Parks, who talked about her lifetime experience regarding media and  PR, and showed the audience a video of Akshaya Patra, an NGO, was all about media acting as a socially responsible tool. Its vision-“No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger”, serves as the pioneer of India, providing mid-day meals. It started feeding 1500 children in 5 schools and now it’s reaching over1.2 million children everyday.



Then the next competition was Debate: “PR is more than a vanilla for serving Corporate Social Responsibility to Celebrities.” The seminar room had a sudden bloom with passionate participants speaking and throwing their opinions, views and verdict. 



At this event/competition PR became a target, the speakers words played as dots and arrows hitting the PR, the vanilla and the Celebrities. Judges of this event were Mrs. Ina Bose, Mr. Subhas Mukherjee and Mr. Biswajit Motilal.



The debate signaled the end of the program. Mrs.  Madhupa Bakshi, senior faculty member, head of Advertising and PR Dept. and Mr. Mritunjoy Chatterjee, Principal of NSHM Institute of Media and Communications, gave a closing message ending the program.

Up next, Mr.Biswajit Motilal, Assistant Vice President of Corp. Communications at Birla Corporation gave a rousing and motivating speech about how the media is influencing the youth and how PR is important for people to understand its core values.



 Following on the same lines, Mr.Subhas Mukherjee, Senior Manager, Corp Communications at ITC underlined the many uses of PR and how public relations management helps shape public attitudes and evaluate public understanding.

 

The program took its corporate elegance at “The Conclave”, winners of the respective competition were awarded by PRSI( Public Relations Society Of India) and NSHM INSTITUTE OF MEDIA AND COMMUNICTIONS. The corporate evening ended on a smooth PR note:


“PR is not only limited to corporate field, it is also in creative field of advertising agencies to let go things hand in hand without interrupting  the marketing progress of the company”
